Carpet Stains

Spilling milk or the orange juice on carpet leave heavy stains which cannot be blind sighted. The toddlers are hard to control when they get in the shoes of Picasso. Calling a carpet cleaner every week will be hard on the pocket, whereas it is not that disastrous. You can always get it in its original form by Doing It Yourself. Let’s get into the DIY of Carpet Cleaning.

Things You Should Know Before You Start
When you need to remove a stain, you will need to blot the spot and dry working from the outside in, rinse thoroughly with clean water, then blot again. You must not scrub the carpet as it will risk in ruining the carpet fibers which cannot be replenished and the spill will be soaked through to the carpet pad.

Type of stain

Let’s get more specific in identifying the stains. Find your stain on the list, you can always find several spot removers on the market. Before using it, you must check it on an inconspicuous spot to make sure it is not resulting into discoloration of the carpet.

Water-Soluble Stains:

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Berries
  • Cola
  • Excrement
  • Food Dyes
  • Gravy
  • Ice Cream
  • Jelly
  • Milk
  • Mud
  • Washable Ink
  • Wet or Latex Paint

Don’t worry about these stains as simple cleaning homemade solutions can be made up.  Get 1/4 teaspoon of non-bleach detergent or white vinegar and mix it with 32 ounces of water, it will become a super cleaning agent for such stains.

Special Water-Soluble Stains:

  • Blood
  • Chocolate
  • Coffee
  • Mustard
  • Tea
  • Vomit
  • Wine

For such stains, all you have to do it

1)      1 Tablespoon of Ammonia

2)      Mix it with 1 cup of water

3)      Stir it well and apply

Make sure you do not try this on wool or wool blended carpet, in such conditions you may use mild detergent and water. If that does not work, you must try one part chlorine bleach to five parts of water. This must be tried specifically on solution-dyed carpets, such as polypropylene.

Fat, Oil, and Wax spills:

Let us mess with some magic beans on them. Get a paper towel over the carpet and drop an iron on a warm setting. The wax, fat or oil should come off the carpet and stick to the paper towel.

Cigarette Burns

Let us save the smoker from ash-ing his carpet. These can be removed by gentle rubbing in the pile with the edge of a hard and flat surface such as a dull knife.

Glue

For glue sticks, moisten a cotton ball with alcohol. Press it hard on the affected area and one the glue residue it thoroughly moistened, gently wipe it off and repeat until the carpet looks like it was before.

Wax and Gum

Well, don’t cry after spilling the milk or sorry? It is a wax and gum. Let us not cry over it and bring some ice to freeze the wax or gum, and then shatter it with a blunt object like a spoon or something. Vacuum it before the pieces turn soft and blot it with a white towel.

Nail Polish
Simple! Blot the affected area with a thick rag dipped in a nail polish remover.
